Last Sunday, the chicks were on Governor's Island. All of our chicks were there except for Sunny. There were also a bunch of other chickens there. Every person there was either helping to finish and set up games for the chicken exhibit or holding a chicken.
People were crawling into the little chicken cage to get the chicken they wanted. Some people didn't want to go into the chicken cage and got there friends to get chickens out for them. Some of the adults cut up watermelon for a snack. Once people were done with the watermelon, they would put the rinds outside the chicken cage so the chickens could compost it. I had to leave after that, but I know that goats came to the exhibit .

No More Chicks

Angel, the rambunctious chick with lots of energy.
Sunshine, the biggest of them all, the sight of your everyday chick.
Leopard Baby, the smallest one with the attachment to Prof. Hill.
Oreo, the calmest of the twins/always chill and the easiest to pet.
Boston, twins with Oreo, but unlike her twin, she is almost always moving.
Penguin, the mover, she would never be caught dead standing still, unless she was under or in a hand.

They were and still remain the chicks in six. Although they are gone from our classroom, they will always be remembered. I hope they are happy in Governor's Island. They might not be our official chicks, but they are as good as any. Good bye to the chicks in six, the classroom community is broken without you.

AWSOME GOODBYE CHICKS POEM

Goodbye Chicks

Promise me you'll grow so tall
And remember to be friendly to all
Be good chickens
Don't let us down
Just fly and dance and turn around
Though you probably don't know it
Today is a BIG day
THis lonely day in May
Where all you chicks just go away.

Never Forget......

                                                       Never forget.......

This is for the chickies: Lil Leopard, Boston, Sunny, Orie, Angel, and Penguin. And everyone else                                         who refuses to take them back.

We won't forget you
Your chirps are my song, your song, our song
Our song will be forever in our memories
The song will be playing for generations, and beyond

We won't forget the time we first saw each other
Our eyes gazing at each other with curiosity and fright
No understanding between our bodies

We gave you these names,
Sunny, Orie, Boston, Lil Leopard, Angel, Penguin, very curious names
Now thankful for the names, since it matched your personalities, not your appearances
Never forgetting the moment that we had a debate over the names

We will never forget the sight of having a birthday party for you
Giving you oatmeal and carrots
Seeing the result of this, everyone having a "stepping-over-the-food-party"
Just seeing everyone enjoying the first birthday party ever held for a chicken in the sixth grade, only wishing that it would last forever

We won't forget the times we held you, touched you, kissed you, loved you
And we will never be apart from each other, since we will find a way to see each other again
I can imagine that sight, holding you again after some time, finally hearing you chirp again, and feeling your very soft feathers across your body

We will never forget the time we spent with eachother,
Seeing each and everyone of you grow into wonderful, friendly chickens

We will always remember, from our birth to our deaths
We will never forget your wonderful chirps, dreaming that we will hear those chirps once more, filling our hearts with happiness, and filling in the hole of sadness in our souls from the sight of you going away
We will always remember you, wishing that we see eachother again soon!

We will truly miss each and everyone of you, forever and ever

WE ALL LOVE YOU, ALWAYS HAVE AND ALWAYS WILL!!!!!!!!

                                                                              With love,
                                                                                            Everyone

A Dear Goodbye to Our Sweet Chicks in Six...

To Orie, Sunshine, Leopard, Angel, Penguin, and Boston,

I know you'll probably never find this post. And even if you did, you could never read it anyways. But I just wanted to say goodbye. I won't see you for a while. Like, a long while. I can't come on June 2nd with the rest of them. I have to dress up and go to this awards ceremony. Real fancy shmancy stuff. Maybe I'll come during summer break. I certainly have plenty of time.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy Governor's Island. It certainly sounds entertaining. Although the lack of attention probably gets depressing sometimes. But you'll have a good life there. So do enjoy your life to the fullest. And... don't eat lots of cupcakes. I do love them, but they'll make you sick. Just eat oatmeal and rice and mushy food scraps. So... yeah.

Even though you're gone, we all still love you. Just remember that.

Have fun in life,
Maia, who still loves cupcakes (and other sugary things)
